+J COMMUNITY

At the +J, you're one of a few - not one of many. We're a small, "boutique" barn where we all know each other, help & encourage each other, and offer a place that feels like your home away from home. We have potlucks and cowboy cooking gatherings, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy horse life, on and off your steed.

EQUESTRIAN VAULTING

We are excited to partner with vaulter, Dusti Hausman, to offer equestrian vaulting for youth and adults. Equestrian vaulting can easiest be described as gymnastics on horseback. Students will learn the fundamentals of the sport and develop excellent core strength and horsemanship skills. Classes include work on both the vaulting barrel and our vaulting equines.

ABOUT THE
+J RANCH
Established in March of 2023 and owned by Kristin Stewart Aungst & Chef Bob Aungst; the +J Ranch offers the perfect spot for your horse to live his or her best life. We care for each horse like they are our own.
Since the age of 4, Kristin wanted a "pony barn". She grew up on a large multi-generational ranch in northern Nebraska (think Yellowstone, but without the drama and shootouts) where she was integral to her family's cattle and Quarter Horse operation. She showed horses in 4-H from ages 8 to 18, team roped through high school, and "chased an occasional can & bent some poles". After high school, college and building a life took center stage and horses took a backseat. She was a "cowgirl interrupted" until the summer of 2022 when she talked her husband, Chef Bob, into the purchase of a cute little paint colt. One horse leads to another, and then ultimately the purchase of a beautiful established horse property in Eustis.

The +J brand pays homage to Kristin's Nebraska heritage. Settled in the late 1800s by her grandmother's family, who emigrated from Germany, the ranch was assigned the +J brand. It has remained in the family since. The brand is now registered in the state of Florida with the Department of Agriculture. People often ask if there is a significance to the plus and/or the J - it just happened to be the brand that was assigned way back when and we've just embraced it.

And how does a chef fit into the picture, you ask...? Well Chef Bob and Kristin met at the Daytona 500 in 2010. Due to factors outside her control, Kristin "ghosted" him for 4 years before they reconnected Memorial Day Weekend 2014 and have been inseparable since. They own and operate a handful of businesses together, both being serial entrepreneurs at heart. CB has had horses in his past (big, bold colored Paints are his favorite), but he likely didn't even see this venture coming! He serves as the Ranch's business operations manager, chief horse trader, and resident "Cookie". Boarders can enjoy cowboy cooking lessons with CB, and learn to cook over an open fire.

What's included in full care?Your horse's full care from ear tips to tail is included in full care - we feed high quality feed and hay (grass & alfalfa - and plenty of it!), keep exceptionally clean stalls and use premium, low-dust shavings (clean barns don't have flies and horses that aren't fighting flies have pretty tails!), each stall has a high velocity fan that is run daily during warm weather, we manage daily turnout and warm water bathing/grooming upon return, fly spray (also plenty of it!), blanketing/sheeting/fly masking, hold your horse for vet/farrier/other equine service providers, and keep a close eye on them like they're our own. What's not included? Farrier work, vet visits & required vaccinations, additional contracted services like equine massage/acupuncture/chiropractor, and anything else outside routine horse care.
